ATTITUDES TOWARDS GAYS
"I was watching Brookside yesterday!(the first time ever that I have $actually watched a full episode) and#was quite surprised by the attitude%of that old Goaty Bloke who walked in
on Beth and Chris.
Now, I know that we here at#P.V.F.C. often don't take things to$seriously, but I think I really must!protest at the way society treats
gays. I'm not talking about%Brookside, I thought that that blokes%wife locking him out of his house for being a homophobic and biggotted!bastard (as well as just a normal
one) more than made up for the%insults he threw at Beth, calling her"a sexual deviant (I always thought$that was sex withchildren and stuff)!and saying, "I can't imagine what%would have happened if I haddn't been there. Something unspeakable, no!doubt." (noticed that Beth didn't$think so, though). I'm talking about"the waythat society treats them in%general. You only have to look at the%age of concent for gays: LOWERED from
21 to 18. It's clear that homosexuality is still something
viewed as something people are persuaded into by dirty old men,#(more on that later) when in actual!fact it simply isn't true. Notice
also that the age of concent$doesn'tapply to lesbians, (the above comment about dirty old men only#really applys to gay men) people in$most cases, correct me if I'm wrong,"don't view lesbians with quite the!same disgust as gay men. At least
that's what I've found in my%experience. (No, I don't mean it like
that...) This is why the age of
concent is high as it is.$Personnally,I fail to see how anyone can be "persuaded" to be gay: it%simply doesn't happen, no matter what%polititans may say. People claim that
people in this country don't#discriminate against gays like they#used to: BALLS!! The age of concent$is two years higher, and gays aren't$allowed into the navy. I also notice#that if you're heterosexual and you#have sex with your 15 year old girl$friend there isn't a national outcry$and you get a swarm of police coming"round to your house to arrest you,"but if you're gay and you have sex$with your 17 year old boyfriend then"that's exactly what happens. A bit
sad really, isn't it? It really$annoys me when people actually write
in to magazines and other!publications which are "right on""enough to publish things like this$(such as "Grapevine" and "Write On!"$which used to be in the Buzz section#of Oracle before it was replaced by%that stupid "Teletext on 3") and make$stupid jokes about homosexuality and""poofters". One joke in particular$which annoyed me was in reference to$lesbians which went: "I have nothing%against lesbians, but two locks don't open a door. Understand what I'm saying?" The editor said simply,
"Yes. Unfortunately."! Another "boy" (for he is a boy,!since he is obviously not mature $enough to be regarded as a man) made
stupid comments about gays $perpetually on "Write on!" also. One"girl wrote in with the response to"him:"Homophobia is just like being
racist: they are both based on%non-understanding of a group regarded#as 'different' from the masses." He%replied with: "I don't know where she#gets the idea from that I'm racist:$My best friend is black and, yes, he!shares the same views as me about!gays." What views would those be,!Hmm? The views of a mal-informed,%biggotted, homophobic twat who has no!doubt never even met a gay and is#therefore compleatly unable to form%any real opinion of them? And is also just to plain thick to grasp the simple concept that the girl was$saying homophobia is LIKE racism and
not that he WAS racist? I think
you'll find they are.! The girl made a good point: The"majority of racist and homophobes "have probably never even met their hated minority group and so can #never make any real judgement. They"just say how disgusting gay sex is$and how all blacks and asians should!go back to their own country. The#fact is, gays obviously don't think"gay sex is disgusting, they can't $help their feelings towards the same%sex, just in the same way that people!can't help which colour they are.$It's also important to remember that%most blacks and asians were, in fact,#born in this country: this IS their#home, so telling them to go back to#their own country produces the same
effect as voting Conservative:!Nothing. It must be terrible when"these people are growing up in the%only country they have ever know, and$one day they get told by some stupid%little tosser, "Why don't you go back
to your own country?" That must
really hurt, that they are#discriminated against for something#they have no control over. Luckily,#it is only a small minority who are
still this racist. I'm not firm$friends with any Asians or anything,%but it wouldn't stop me being freinds%with anyone if a suitable person came%along. In the same way, I wouldn't be%detered from going out with an Asian
(in fact there was actually a
rumour going around that I was
going out with an Asian at our%school. It was compleatly unfounded, #and made up, which was unfortunate,
because she's actually rather
attractive. Sigh.)! Anyway, what I'm saying is that
nobody should be discriminated
against for any reason because#they're different. It simpily isn't
on.$We are supposed to be a free society!where people can be what they are!without being beaten up for their#trouble. Everybody out there: Grow
